A week old moose calf takes an evening stroll through a river bottom filled with lupine. Born from mid May to early June, a moose calf will grow quickly while nursing on its mother's milk and feeding on a variety of plants, leaves and twigs. Mom will stay close by her calf and defend it from predators such as grizzly bears, black bears, wolves or coyotes. The calf will stay with its mother for an entire year, until she gives birth to another calf the following spring. Moose are the largest member of the deer family and have a lifespan of 15 to 25 years.
