A Great Gray Owl and its owlet have a staring contest. At two months this chick is not developed enough to fly but old enough to venture out of the nest. When fully grown, Great Grays are two-and-a-half feet tall making them the largest owls in North America. They are also one of the few owls who are diurnal, hunting both day and night, making photographs like this one possible.
